Fun facts from the news
Did you know that there are only 69 hippos in the country?
And only 500 some odd giraffes (200+ male, 300+ female)?
And that the last giraffe imported into the country was back in 1984 so the zoos have to carefully keep track of which giraffes have mated with which to help keep the genetic line of the giraffes in America as healthy as possible.
That’s what I learned watching ABC News tonight. Oh, and we are supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow tonight.

Really! Somehow I just assumed we had an abundance of hippos and giraffes in the country, even though I don’t exactly see any everyday. haha! =D

I was stunned when I heard the 500 giraffes number. I still don’t really believe that 69 number for hippos. But, when we were at the Brookfield zoo a while back, I only remember maybe 2 hippos in the whole park and that ’s a pretty big zoo.

I was wondering why so few hippos were showing up at my parties. I just thought they felt too cool for karaoke.

Only 69? I can only imagine what the animal population will be in 30 years.
I feel lucky to have a couple only miles down the road.
