Learning New Life Skills

by kalbzayn on September 12, 2007

When was the last time you spent any time learning how to do something that wasn’t for work or one of your main hobbies?  I’m a busy adult.  After work, the family, and a little writing there are not very many hours left in the day.

As a kid, I remember spending a week learning how to stand on a soccer ball.  Another week learning to build a 5 story card tower.  Another realizing that I am incapable of walking on my hands.

I’m not sure exactly when I gave up learning the more fluffy life skills but I’m working on changing that.  Which monumental life skills am I starting to work on?

  • Maintaining a healthy fish tank.
  • Keeping the grass green and free of weeds.
  • Spinning a basketball on my finger.  For some reason my son keeps asking me to do this and despite playing serious basketball most of my teenage years, I never learned how.

What fun life skills are you learning?  Just the stuff that is not related to work or main hobbies.

I learned how to rappel by accident. It was part of the exteme zipline adventure I did for my 40th birthday. Even though it was explained carefully on the brochure and website, I didn’t realize that they meant that EVERYONE would be rappelling as part of the experience.

I guess I learned two things then. :0

Very cool. Ziplining seems like it would be a blast especially in a cool heavily wooded area.
