New Theme Do To Old Theme Changing Its Mind

by kalbzayn on January 17, 2008

Yesterday I decided to take my old theme that I have been using for probably more than a year with no real changes and move the sidebar from the right to the left in preparation for widening the content area a bit so I can have a little more floorspace for the comics.

I went into the css and changed the align for the content from left to right and the align for the sidebar from right to left. And it didn’t work. So I switched everything back and it didn’t work?!?

I decided to install the current theme with plans of customizing it some day and realized that I needed WP 2.3+ to use it and I was on 2.1.2. So, first I had to upgrade (which was practically effortless), then install the theme, then customize it just a little bit to get the content area wide enough.

Fun.

I’ve been jotting day quite a few ideas for comics (including some that are multi-panel and a couple that should be more serial/story based). I was worried that after doing this for a couple weeks I would hit a big writer’s block but so far so good. My drawer’s block is a different story but I’m working my way through that. I’m learning that there really isn’t anything that can’t be drawn with the Wacom table as long as you zoom in far enough to really control the pen.

Also, I signed up for Project Wonderful which is a new (to me) advertising program that seems to focus on the webcomic crowd. It has a neat bidding system where you can set minimum prices and the highest bidder gets the spot. All bids are for displaying a banner/button for a day which I find pretty interesting.

Anyway, I set my minimum pretty low and a couple people already signed up. Cool. I’ll be able to quit my day job and do this full time in approximately 4000 years as long as I invest intelligently and keep expenses low.

Wow! I hide in a cave for a couple of days and you go and pull Martha-Stewart-takes on-a-blog-template! Next you’ll be asked to speak at webcomic conventions. And there I was thinking that webcomics needed to have Spiderman in them. :)

I was just as surprised as you to hear the theme needed changed. Now I’ll have to spend more time actually customizing this blog someday. Oh well.
