Late last week I was getting an urge to have people read some of my stories and give me input on how to make them better.  I remembered a post (that may or may not actually have ever been written) a while back on Bonnie’s blog.  In that mythical post, I thought she was trying to start up a writing group with one of her friends.  At the time, I wasn’t interested.  But late last week, I sent her an email and asked if she had ever started it.  The answer, for all of you interested in joining, is no.  So, go start your own or pay Bonnie to start one and let me know about it.

While waiting to reply to Bonnie’s email where she explains why it never got started, I realized that wanting to join a writing group is probably just another way of procrastinating for me.  Imagine how much time I could kill finding a good writing group, getting accepted, and then learning my way around.  And then just imagine how much more time I could buy if the group did not work out.

Just this morning I found the profanity filled inspirational post explaining the best way to get anything done. DIFN.  I might need to get that tatooed on my knuckles…or just get a bumper sticker made that I can put over the TV screen.

It really should be that easy.

When I played basketball in high school, we had a kid on the team that could shoot extremely well but he had a habit of going through periods of time where he would quit shooting because he was so focused on trying to run the plays.  We used to call him over and say, “Quit thinking.  Just shoot the ball.”  There may have been a profanity or two thrown in for shock value.

So, with my words of inspiration in my left hand and my Pirate Story deadline extension in my right, I’m going to sit down at some point tonight and get back to writing.  I won’t worry about anything besides writing.

DIFN…as soon as work is done and I drive home and put the kids to bed and clean the house.
