Every great story must have an end

Kurt Vonnegut died yesterday.

Vonnegut is one of my favorite writers ever.  His voice is so unique and his plots so outlandish and amazing.

Kurt is a writer who proved that you can write the story that is in your heart and if you write it well enough it will be a great story.   I can’t imagine him ever sitting down wondering which genre would get the best sales or whether he should remove a plot element because it might be too controversial.  It felt like he wrote whatever he thought about.

Kurt Vonnegut was like alternative music…only written by your grandpa.  All the frustration and edginess mixed with a great deal of compassion and understanding.

He wrote.  We listened.

People made up stuff that he spoke.  We listened because it sounded like something he should have written.

Either way, grab your favorite Vonnegut book and head outside to read it…and don’t forget the sunscreen.
