Holy hell.
Alexander walked back in at the first 1am with a plate full of pizza and a glass of water. “Eat this. You'll need to fill up. We'll be going on a long journey.”
“Where are we going? How am I going to avoid the cops?”
“Now is not the time for questions. Just eat.”
We sat in silence for another hour. Just before 1:59am Alexander moved to the center of the room and waved for me to join him. He stared at the concrete wall. Suddenly cracks appeared outlining a door. I started to ask what is going on, but the blinding light when the door began to open silenced me.
Alexander's hand on my back guided me through the door. There was nothing but sky in front of us. Below our feet was a little ledge of grass just wide enough for the two of us. Behind us, the door closed and disappeared. Except for the small patch of grass at our feet, there was nothing anywhere. I mean anywhere. All I could see was blue sky; up, down and all around. I started to swoon. Alexander grabed my arm and said, “Soon enough. But for now, you must know that we will fall for a very long time, but we will be fine when we land.” Then, he gently pushed me and stepped off the ledge after me.
We fell for several hours before I drifted to sleep.
I awoke with a start on the dirt ground of a small shack. Stew simmering on a small stove grabbed my nose. Two chairs sat empty next to the wall in front of me.
“Hello, Dorian.”
“Where am I? What happened....”
“We'll talk more tomorrow. I must sleep now.”
Before I could reply, Alexander's snores filled the shed. I ate the stew. After unsuccessfully searching for a door, I fell asleep curled in the corner.
